Getting Started
General Questions
How long is a typical treatment session?
Most treatment sessions range from 45-60 minutes, depending on the service. Initial assessments may take up to 75 minutes to allow for comprehensive evaluation.
How do I book an appointment?
You can book online through our Jane App portal at apexperformancehealth.janeapp.com, call us directly at (905) 481-4972, or visit our clinic at 1020 Brevik Pl, Unit 5, Mississauga. Online booking is available 24/7.
What is your cancellation policy?
We require 24 hours notice for cancellations or rescheduling. Late cancellations or no-shows may be subject to a fee to respect our practitioners' time and other patients who could have used that slot.
Do you offer same-day appointments?
We do our best to accommodate same-day appointments when possible. Call us at (905) 481-4972 to check availability. Early morning and lunch-hour slots tend to have the best same-day availability.
What should I bring to my first appointment?
Please bring your insurance information (benefits card), any relevant medical records or imaging (X-rays, MRI reports), a list of current medications, and wear comfortable clothing that allows access to the area being treated.
What should I expect at my first visit?
Your first visit includes a comprehensive assessment where your practitioner reviews your health history, conducts a physical examination, discusses your goals, and develops a personalized treatment plan. This initial appointment typically takes 60-75 minutes.
Spinal Health & Joint Care
Chiropractic
What conditions do your chiropractors treat?
Our chiropractors treat a wide range of conditions including back pain, neck pain, headaches, sciatica, sports injuries, joint stiffness, posture-related issues, and repetitive strain injuries. We use a whole-body approach examining joints, muscles, and the nervous system.
Is chiropractic treatment painful?
Most patients experience little to no discomfort during chiropractic adjustments. You may feel a gentle pressure or hear a popping sound, which is simply gas being released from the joint. Some mild soreness after your first session is normal and typically resolves within 24-48 hours.
How many chiropractic sessions will I need?
The number of sessions depends on your condition, severity, and treatment goals. After your initial assessment, your chiropractor will recommend a treatment plan. Acute issues may resolve in 4-6 sessions, while chronic conditions may require ongoing management. We reassess regularly and adjust your plan as you progress.
Do your chiropractors only treat athletes?
Not at all. While our chiropractors hold sports sciences fellowships and work with competitive athletes, the same evidence-based principles apply to anyone who wants to move better and live without pain — whether you are managing the physical demands of work, parenting, or daily life.
What techniques do your chiropractors use?
Our chiropractors use spinal adjustments, joint mobilization, soft tissue therapy, corrective exercise prescription, neurofunctional acupuncture, and movement education. Treatment is tailored to your comfort level and condition — we never use a one-size-fits-all approach.
Rehabilitation & Recovery
Physiotherapy
What is the difference between physiotherapy and chiropractic?
Physiotherapy focuses on rehabilitation through therapeutic exercise, manual therapy, and movement re-education. Chiropractic emphasizes spinal adjustments and nervous system function. Both are effective for musculoskeletal issues. Our multidisciplinary team can help determine which approach — or combination — is best for your needs.
What types of physiotherapy do you offer?
We offer musculoskeletal (MSK) physiotherapy for strains, sprains, tendinopathies, and post-surgical rehabilitation, as well as sports physiotherapy for athletes at all levels. Our physiotherapists use manual therapy, exercise prescription, acupuncture, and education for a tailored rehabilitation arc.
Can physiotherapy help with post-surgical recovery?
Yes, post-surgical rehabilitation is one of our core services. Whether you have had an ACL reconstruction, rotator cuff repair, joint replacement, or spinal surgery, our physiotherapists create a progressive recovery plan to restore strength, mobility, and function.
How soon after an injury should I start physiotherapy?
For most injuries, the sooner you begin physiotherapy the better. Early intervention can reduce pain, prevent compensatory movement patterns, and speed recovery. For acute injuries, we can often see you within 24-48 hours. Post-surgical patients should follow their surgeon's timeline for starting rehabilitation.
Soft Tissue Treatment
Massage Therapy
What types of massage therapy do you offer?
Our registered massage therapists (RMTs) offer deep tissue massage, sports massage, trigger point therapy, myofascial release, fascial stretch therapy, and relaxation massage. Each session is tailored to your specific needs — whether you are recovering from injury, managing chronic tension, or optimizing athletic performance.
Is massage therapy covered by insurance?
Yes, registered massage therapy is covered by most extended health benefit plans in Ontario. Coverage amounts vary by plan. We offer direct billing to most major insurance providers, so you often pay only the difference (if any) at the time of your visit.
How is therapeutic massage different from spa massage?
Our therapeutic massage is clinical and outcomes-focused. Our RMTs assess your movement patterns and soft tissue restrictions, then use targeted techniques to address specific dysfunction. While relaxation is a welcome side effect, the primary goal is improving function, reducing pain, and supporting rehabilitation.
How often should I get massage therapy?
Frequency depends on your condition and goals. For acute injuries or recovery, weekly sessions may be recommended initially. For maintenance and prevention, every 2-4 weeks is common. Your RMT will discuss an optimal schedule based on your response to treatment.
Holistic Healing
Traditional Chinese Medicine & Acupuncture
What is Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)?
TCM is a holistic healthcare system that has been practiced for thousands of years. It focuses on restoring the body's natural balance and energy flow (Qi). At our clinic, TCM treatments include acupuncture, cupping therapy, moxibustion, gua sha, herbal medicine consultation, and lifestyle recommendations.
Does acupuncture hurt?
Acupuncture uses very fine, sterile, single-use needles that are much thinner than injection needles. Most patients feel a mild sensation or slight pressure at the insertion point, but it is generally not painful. Many patients find acupuncture deeply relaxing and some even fall asleep during treatment.
What conditions can acupuncture treat?
Acupuncture can help with chronic pain, headaches, migraines, stress and anxiety, digestive issues, sleep disorders, musculoskeletal pain, and post-injury recovery. It is also used to complement other treatments like physiotherapy and chiropractic care for enhanced results.
How many acupuncture sessions will I need?
Most patients notice improvement within 3-6 sessions. Acute conditions may resolve faster, while chronic issues often require a longer course of treatment. Your TCM practitioner will create a personalized treatment plan and adjust it as your condition improves.
Movement & Performance
Kinesiology
What does a kinesiologist do?
A kinesiologist is a health professional who studies human movement and applies this knowledge to improve physical performance, prevent injury, and aid rehabilitation. Our kinesiologist designs individualized exercise programs, analyzes biomechanics, and provides functional training for athletes, office workers, and anyone recovering from injury.
Who can benefit from kinesiology?
Kinesiology benefits a wide range of people — competitive athletes looking to improve speed and power, weekend warriors recovering from injury, office workers dealing with ergonomic issues, seniors maintaining mobility, and anyone managing chronic conditions like arthritis or diabetes through exercise.
What is a biomechanical assessment?
A biomechanical assessment evaluates how your body moves during specific activities. Our kinesiologist analyzes your posture, gait, joint mobility, muscle strength, and movement patterns to identify imbalances or dysfunctions that may be causing pain or limiting performance. The results guide your personalized exercise program.
Can kinesiology help with workplace ergonomics?
Yes, our kinesiologist evaluates your desk and office setup to determine if it is ergonomically designed to fit your needs. Proper ergonomics can prevent repetitive strain injuries, reduce neck and back pain, and improve productivity. We provide specific recommendations for your workspace.
